Spelling Worksheet Generator: Custom Words & Print

Build a spelling practice packet from the words you already teach. This tool makes three concrete activities: copy each word twice, fill in alternating missing letters using a word bank, and put a word bank in alphabetical order. Preview the actual sheets, choose A4 or US Letter, and print with or without a separate answer key. The exercises are calculated in your browser rather than drafted by AI.

For

Teachers, tutors and parents preparing English spelling practice from a chosen word list.

Problem

A weekly word list needs repeatable exercises, writing space and an accurate reference sheet without manually laying out every page.

Output

A printable packet with up to 20 supplied words, three selectable activities, page previews and optional answer sheets.

Use when

Weekly spelling practiceReuse a classroom word list for handwriting practice, letter completion and ordering exercises without inventing new vocabulary.
Tutoring reviewChoose only the activities relevant to the learner and print a short practice set plus a separate reference key.
Home practicePrepare a small set of familiar words, inspect the preview and keep the answer page for the person reviewing the work.

What to include

Supply individual English wordsSeparate words with commas or new lines. Use letters A-Z only, with 1-20 letters per word and at most 20 different words. Phrases, apostrophes, hyphens, accents and numbers are not supported.
Review normalizationWords are converted to lowercase. Repeated entries are removed case-insensitively, retaining first-seen order. A duplicate count appears beside the list; spelling is not corrected or checked against a dictionary.
Choose the packetSelect copying, missing letters, alphabetical order, or a combination. The answer key is optional. Up to ten words appear in each set; a longer list uses two sets.

Steps

01Enter your word listReplace the sample with your selected words and an optional title. Invalid entries remain editable and prevent printing until corrected.
02Review every pageUse the page arrows to inspect the student sheets and answer key. Changes update the preview immediately. Alphabetical ordering is performed within each printed set, not across the entire packet.
03Print the packetChoose A4 or US Letter and use the print icon. Confirm the matching paper size in your browser's print dialog; disable browser headers and footers for a clean sheet. Browsers that offer Save as PDF can save the print output. There is no separate hosted PDF download.

Try this

Five-word practice
planet, bridge, bright, stone, river

All three activities plus one answer sheet produce a four-page packet.

Short vowel review
cat, bed, sit, hop, sun

Select missing letters for c _ t, b _ d and other completion exercises with the supplied word bank.

Alphabetical ordering
zebra, apple, lemon, banana

The answer key lists apple, banana, lemon, zebra while the activity keeps blank writing lines.

Good output

  • Every exercise uses only the supplied normalized words.
  • Missing letters correspond exactly to the original spelling, and answers are on separate sheets.
  • Alphabetical answers are sorted within the same ten-word set used by the exercise.
  • Print output excludes site navigation, settings and SEO text.
  • The displayed page count is calculated from the selected activities and answer-key option.

Avoid

Printing the answers for studentsTurn off Include answer key when you want only learner pages. With the key enabled, answer sheets appear after all activities.
Treating a word bank as a testThe missing-letter and ordering activities show all words in a bank. These are supported practice exercises, not a hidden-answer spelling assessment.
Expecting curriculum validationReview the word list and difficulty yourself. The tool does not judge age suitability, pronunciation, reading level or educational standards.

Limits

English A-Z words only, up to 20 unique entries of 20 letters each. Input is limited to 2,000 characters; it is rejected rather than silently truncated. All words become lowercase.
No dictionary lookup, spell-checking, phonics analysis, pronunciation, traceable handwriting font, word search or curriculum alignment is provided.
Missing-letter answers are reference spellings from your list. Multiple words may fit a blank pattern; the word bank provides context and the tool does not claim every pattern has a unique solution.
Printing depends on browser and printer settings. Select the matching paper size and inspect the print preview. Save as PDF is a browser feature, not a separate downloadable file generated by this site.
Worksheet generation runs locally in the open browser without generation API calls or saved word-list history. Existing site delivery and aggregate analytics still apply. Reloading the page restores the sample.

FAQ

Can I use my own spelling words?

Yes. Enter one English A-Z word per line or separate words with commas. The tool accepts up to 20 different words, each up to 20 letters. It converts them to lowercase and removes duplicate entries without changing first-seen order.

Can I print or save a PDF?

Use the print icon to open the browser print dialog, then select matching A4 or US Letter paper. If your browser offers Save as PDF, use that destination. The tool does not provide a separate PDF download or store a copy of your packet.

Does the worksheet include answers?

An optional answer key appears on separate pages after all student activities. It contains the supplied word spellings and alphabetical-order answers when that activity is selected. Turn the option off to print learner pages only.

How are missing letters selected?

Every second letter is replaced with a blank, starting with the second letter. A one-letter word becomes a single blank. The supplied word bank stays visible. Different words can share a pattern, so the key is a reference rather than proof of a unique answer.

Is alphabetical order applied to the entire list?

Each printed set contains up to ten words. Learners sort that set's word bank alphabetically; its answer key uses the same set. A list of eleven to twenty words creates two separate sets.

How is this different from the Worksheet Generator?

This page produces deterministic, print-formatted spelling activities from exact supplied words. The general Worksheet Generator creates editable text drafts for broader subjects and requires you to complete and verify their answers.
